Scope and Content Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project, contract no 9, Mullardoch Dam, south wing, looking north, 2 March 1950 Mullardoch Dam is located at the eastern end of Loch Mullardoch on the River Cannich. It was completed in 1952 as part of the Affric/Beauly hydro-electric scheme. Water from the dam flows past a small power station at its south end, and then south through a tunnel to Loch Benevean (Beinn a'Mheadhoin) before arriving at Fasnakyle Power Station. This view shows the building of the south wing of the mass-concrete Mullardoch dam, which is in two sections. The north wing is on the left. On the right the ground has been excavated to bedrock, and the concreting has begun, with derrick cranes to place the concrete. The Mullardoch-Fasnakyle-Affric Project was the first part of the Affric/Beauly scheme to be built. The Affric/Beauly scheme is one of eight large schemes built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board from the 1940s to the 1960s. Great care was taken in its design and construction to minimise the impact on the fine scenery in the area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
