Scope and Content Strathfarrar Works Contract 101, Deanie Tunnel Intake, 11 May 1966 Deanie Power Station was commissioned in 1963 and uses water from the River Farrar stored by the Monar dam. It has a capacity of 38 megawatts, and is concealed below the ground to preserve the natural beauty of the area. This view shows the intake tower at Loch Monar, with the level of the loch raised by a dam. Below the structure seen here is the inlet to the tunnel leading to the Deanie Power Station. Sluice gates, operated from this tower, control the flow of water through the tunnel. Deanie Power Station is one of four power stations built by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board as part of the Strathfarrar scheme. The Strathfarrar scheme is part of the Affric/Beauly Hydro-Electric Scheme, one of eight large schemes built by the Board from the 1940s to 1960s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
