Scope and Content Kitchen, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, from north-west This photograph shows the large kitchen, which is now used as a restaurant. The large cast-iron range, which would have been in use all day, is in the centre of the photograph. Tiles on the walls and floor made for ease of cleaning of this huge room, which would have been a hive of activity for most of the day. A corridor leading from the kitchen led to a suite of store rooms that were each dedicated to a different foodstuff. Some of these rooms now act as the kitchen for the restaurant. Pollok House was first built in the mid-18th century, and was subsequently altered by generations of the Maxwell family. Now in the care of The National Trust for Scotland, the house and grounds are open to the public. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
