Scope and Content Entrance hall, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow, from north-west Designed to impress, the hall is decorated in a very grand style, with mahogany furniture, balustrade and doors. The furniture and central lantern is in the style of Chippendale, with 'modern' late 19th-century features: the lantern panels slide up to allow changing of electric light bulbs, and the table covers a radiator. Down the stairs, access is provided to the service quarters, and there are cloakroom facilities. Pollok House was first built in the mid-18th century by the 2nd Baronet. The original pedimented door casing at the entrance was moved by Rowand Anderson to form the entrance to the new extension. The grand entrance hall at Pollok House was completed in 1890. It was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson (1834-1921), for the 10th Baronet, Sir John Stirling Maxwell (1867-1956). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
