Scope and Content Glasgow-Aberdeen train passing Dunblane Station, Station Road, Dunblane, Stirling This view, taken from the north in 1960 from the south-bound platform, shows a Glasgow-Aberdeen express train passing through the station. The train is hauled by an ex-London & North Eastern Railway A2 class 4-6-2, named after its designer 'AH Peppercorn'. Note the gas lamps on the platform. Dunblane Station is now the terminus of local services from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Locomotive-hauled services between Glasgow and Aberdeen have been replaced by diesel multiple-unit trains. The gas lamps have been replaced by electric lighting. Dunblane Station was opened in 1848 by the Scottish Central Railway, part of the trunk railway from Carlisle to Aberdeen constructed between 1847 and 1850. It became a junction for services to Callander in 1858, and to Oban in 1880. The station was modernised in 1898. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
