Scope and Content Shunting locomotive at Yoker Power Station, Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire This view from the south-east was taken on 12 May 1962 and shows the steam shunting locomotive used at the works, with British Railways standard pressed steel 12-ton wagons, apparently empty, which would have brought coal to the station. This locomotive was built for the power station in 1937 by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co Ltd of Kilmarnock. It was presented to the Strathspey Railway by the SSEB in the late 1970s, and is now at Aviemore. The power station closed at about the same time, and has been demolished. This coal-fired power station was established by the Clyde Valley Electric Power Co Ltd in about 1905, and was subsequently extended on a number of occasions. It was a base-load station for the National Grid from 1927, and was latterly operated by the South of Scotland Electricity Board (SSEB). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
