Scope and Content Train at Station, Commercial Crescent, Ladybank, Fife This shows the south-bound platform from the south-south-west in July 1971, with an Aberdeen-Edinburgh train, headed by a type 47 locomotive. The panel on the front displays a code for identifying the particular train. The building on the right was built by the North British Railway in the late 19th century. This was a typical Aberdeen-Edinburgh train of the period. The type 47 locomotives were introduced in 1960, and could carry out a wide range of duties. They were supplanted on Edinburgh-Aberdeen trains in 1977 by 'High Speed Trains' (HSTs). This station was opened in 1847 by the Edinburgh & Northern Railway, and the main building, on the north-bound platform, was probably designed by David Bell. It is a two-platform through station, and was originally the junction of lines from Burntisland north to Tayport and west to Perth. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
