Scope and Content Coroghon Barn, Canna, Highland, from west Coroghon Barn is a two-storeyed building, built of rubble with a slated roof. It dates to the late 18th century. The south-west facing elevation is supported by three buttresses, which were probably added at a later date to support the barn on the slope. Inside the barn on the lower floor there are two compartments. On the upper floor there are also two compartments, one of which was entered by the door visible in the centre of the gable, reached by the external stone forestair. The chimney-stack is for a fireplace which was sited in the south-west corner of that compartment. Canna is one of the most westerly of the Small Isles and is situated to the north-west of Rhum. The island is low-lying and is a mixture of fertile ground, bog and moorland. In 1981 Canna was gifted to The National Trust for Scotland by Dr J L Campbell. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
