Scope and Content Meadowside Quay, Glasgow, from south This view from the south, taken in 1979, shows the west end of the quay from the former Govan steamer pier. The ship is a general cargo vessel and the original transit sheds are behind her. To the left is the Meadowside Granary, built in stages from 1910-12, with pneumatic grain elevators on the quay in front of it. This quay was used for general cargo until the 1980s, and was then used for handling steel scrap for export. The granary fell out of use in the early 1980s. In 2002-3 the buildings on the quay were all demolished to make way for a proposed major housing and commercial development. This quay was built by the Clyde Navigation Trust between 1908 and 1912 between the Meadowside Shipyard, and a sawmill at Merklands. To make way for the quay, the stadium of Partick Thistle Football Club was acquired and the club moved to Maryhill. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
