Scope and Content Auchincloch Mill, Banknock, North Lanarkshire This shows the lade from the dam to the waterwheel from the south-east. The roofless building on the right was a threshing mill, originally powered by water from the same dam. This was one of a number of former watermills in the area which had been electrified to make animal feeding stuffs. All succumbed to competition from large national manufacturers in the 1970s. This one has since been converted into a dwelling house. This mill was probably rebuilt in the early 19th century, and re-equipped in the mid-20th century to make animal feeding stuffs, using electrically-powered equipment. The high-breast waterwheel, about 6m in diameter by 0.9m wide, was retained to drive the sack hoist. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
