Scope and Content Anderson Boyes Works, Craigneuk Street, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire This shows the works from the north-west. The way in which the complex grew in stages is evident, as is the large scale of the works. The offices are in the centre, between the two rows of parked cars. Anderson Boyes amalgamated with Mavor & Coulson of Glasgow in the 1970s,as Anderson Mavor (later Anderson Strathclyde). The decline of deep mining worldwide led to contraction, and eventually to the closure of this works, by the American-owned firm, in the late 1990s. It is now an industrial estate. This works was founded in the 1890s by Anderson, Boyes & Co Ltd to make electrically-operated coal mining equipment. They became world leaders in this field, and eventually their works covered a large area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
