Scope and Content Main production block from west, Rosebank Distillery, Camelon Road, Falkirk Rosebank Distillery was founded c.1817 and restored and converted in the 1840s by James Rankine. His son, R W Rankine rebuilt the distillery in 1864, with ownership passing to the Rosebank Distillery Ltd in 1894. The maltings were demolished c.1970, and the site mothballed in 1993. This shows the main production block and the boiler house chimney from across the Forth & Clyde Canal basin. The nearest building is constructed from stone up to first-floor level, with a brick upper storey. The roofs are slated and tie-beams to strengthen the walls are visible as painted metal discs. At one point there was a bridge across the canal to the maltings. Long after distilleries close, their whisky continues to be sold and gain in value with rarity. One thing it cannot do, however is age. Once bottled, a twelve-year-old Scotch will always remain a twelve-year-old, no matter how long it is kept. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
