Scope and Content West Stand from east, Heart of Midlothian Football Club, Tynecastle Park Stadium, Gorgie Road, Edinburgh Tynecastle Park Stadium is the home ground of Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) Football Club, founded in 1874. Hearts have played on this site since 1886 and bought the ground in 1926. Despite a crowded urban setting that restricts development, Tynecastle was rebuilt during the 1990s to meet modern safety standards. This shows the West Stand on the Wheatfield Street side of the ground. It was roofed over in 1959 following the club's win in the 1958 League Championship. To increase the safety of spectators, bench seating was installed to replace the old barriers in 1982. It was later demolished and a new stand opened in 1994. Opposite the back of Main Stand on McLeod Street is the former Gorgie Police Station. A Victorian building, it is now the club's ticket office. Across the road is the old Hearts Social Club, built at a cost of £200,000 in 1969. The venture was not a success so the building was sold to Lothian Regional Council in 1980.
