Scope and Content Baltic Works, Dens Road, Arbroath, Angus This works is shown on the first edition of the 1:2500 Ordnance Survey plan of Arbroath, and though the date 1861 has been assigned to the four-storeyed and attic front range, it may have been built earlier. Its frontage faced the railway, so it is more elaborate than most of the Arbroath mills. This shows the building, from the south-west, on the left, with the weaving sheds of Nether Ward Mill (Flax) to the right. The vacant ground in the foreground was in 1859 the site of Arbroath's locomotive shed. Note the three pediments on the Baltic Mill. This building was still in use for flax spinning in 1921, but by 1970 it was used as a bonded warehouse by the Arbroath Warehouse Co as their Bond No 1. It was still standing in 2000.
