Scope and Content Richard Donald Stand, Aberdeen Football Club, Pittodrie Park Stadium, Pittodrie Street, Aberdeen Pittodrie Park Stadium in Aberdeen is the home ground of Aberdeen Football Club, popularly known as 'The Dons'. The Club was formed in 1903 when the original Aberdeen Football Club amalgamated with two other local clubs, Victoria United and Orion. 'Pittodrie' means 'dung hill' as the site was originally a rubbish tip. This shows the Richard Donald Stand at the stadium, viewed from Pittodrie Street. The stand, Pittodrie's newest, was completed in 1993, designed by Bob Garden of Mackie, Ramsay & Taylor Architects and built by the Stewart Milne Group, whose chief executive, Stewart Milne, is currently Chairman of the Club. Its seating capacity is 6,220. The stand is named after Richard Donald, who was Chairman of Aberdeen Football Club until his death in 1993. His son is Vice Chairman today. In 1978, Pittodrie became the UK's first all-seated stadium. Today it is the third largest ground, after Celtic and Rangers, in the Scottish Premier League, with a seating capacity of 22,199.
