Scope and Content St Johnstone Football Club, McDiarmid Park, Crieff Road, Perth, Perth & Kinross This shows the new stadium during construction in 1989. The four all-seated stands can clearly be seen, with the pitch already laid in the centre. The new stadium has a capacity of 10,673. The last match played at Muirton Park was against Ayr United on 29 April 1989. Following a series of disasters at football stadiums in the 1980s and 1990s, new regulations were brought into place which required teams in the English and Scottish premier divisions to become all-seated. This led to St Johnstone moving to their brand new stadium, and a supermarket was built on the site of Muirton Park. St Johnstone Football Club was founded in 1884 by members of the St Johnstone Cricket Club at Recreation Park in Perth. Muirton Park in Dunkeld Road was the club's home from 1925 until 1989, when they moved to a new all-seater stadium at McDiarmid Park, on the outskirts of the city.
