Scope and Content Warehouses, Nos 7-25 Cochrane Street, Glasgow These buildings were part of a group built in the late 18th century, apparently as flatted warehouses. Behind the plain frontages there were octagonal or rectangular courtyards with cranes or hoists giving access to the upper floors. Many of these warehouses seem to have been occupied by textile firms. This shows the main block of these warehouses at 7-25 Cochrane Street, from the north west. On the right is part of John Street United Presbyterian Church, built in 1858-60 to designs by J T Rochhead. The block nearest to the church has some ornamentation, but the others impress by their severity. The church was converted to a bar and offices in 1987-88, but the rest of these buildings have been demolished and replaced by modern office blocks. Another block, 49-57 Cochrane Street, has been converted into part of the Italian Centre, only retaining the façades. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
