Scope and Content Transit Sheds, Camperdown Dock, Dundee Harbour, Dundee Camperdown Dock and the adjacent Victoria Dock were constructed in 1863-75 to serve Dundee's growing trade in jute, flax and general cargo. Both were equipped with single-storey transit sheds on their north quays, and Victoria Dock had in addition a five-storey warehouse at its north-east corner. This shows the transit sheds on the north quay of Camperdown Dock, looking north-east, with two small coasters at the far end of the dock. Note that the change in the roof pitch shows that these sheds were built in two stages. The earlier range is probably to the left. The Victoria and Camperdown docks had declined considerably in importance by 1969, and the Victoria Dock has since closed to commercial traffic. It now houses HMS 'Unicorn', a wooden warship of 1815. These transit sheds have now been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
