Scope and Content Harbour Tramway, Victoria Dock, Dundee The Dundee dock system was extended to the east between 1863 and 1875, when the Victoria and Camperdown docks were constructed. These were presumably designed to be rail served, and as development continued to the east the rail network followed it. This shows a diesel shunting locomotive on the tramway beside the warehouse at the east end of Victoria Dock. In the distance is a train of oil tank wagons, presumably associated with Briggs's oil refinery, to the east of Camperdown Dock. The connection to the main line is on the left. Harbour tramways were standard features of Victorian dock developments, but with the decline in rail-borne freight in the 1960s most had closed. This was one of the last to operate. It has since closed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
