Scope and Content Hydraulic Power Station, Queen's Dock, Glasgow This building was constructed in 1877-8 for the Clyde Navigation Trust to designs by J Carrick, architect. It was built on the north side of the entrance to the dock, and contained steam-powered hydraulic pumps and a hydraulic accumulator to power a swing bridge over the entrance, and some cranes. This shows the building from the north-east, with the hydraulic accumulator tower on the right. The pumps were in the pedimented section to the left. The swing bridge was out of sight to the left, but was removed in the 1950s. Queen's Dock was built between 1872 and 1880 for the Clyde Navigation Trust, and was originally known as Stobcross Dock. The bridge over the entrance was designed by Sir William Armstrong & Co of Newcastle, pioneers of hydraulic engineering. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
