Scope and Content Detail of the porch of Kilmore House, No 30 Laurieknowe, Dumfries, Dumfries & Galloway This elegant three-bayed villa was built in the early 19th century of red ashlar stonework. It features an unusual verandah of cast iron, with a curving, bell-cast roof, and a porch supported on square stone columns. This shows the porch supported on square stone columns. On the pediment above stands a sculpture of a standing lion. A cast iron verandah (left) features a delicate design based on Classical motifs, and is covered by a curved, bell-cast roof. The panelled wooden front door has stained-glass details. This entrance doorway with its carved lion and columned porch gives a sense of grandeur and importance to this small villa. The many decorative details found on this building suggest it was built for a wealthy client who could afford such adornments. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
