Scope and Content Detail of the Dining Room, Central Station Hotel, No 99 Gordon Street, Glasgow The Central Station Hotel, built for the Caledonian Railway Company, was extended in 1900-5 along its Hope Street front by James Miller to include a magnificent dining room. Details of the room were recorded in 1906 by the photographer, Bedford Lemere. The woodwork, by the Bromsgrove Guild, is decorated with fluted pilasters which flank the fireplace, and intricately carved garlands of fruits and flowers. The chair-back bears the lion rampant, the symbol of the Caledonian Railway Company. The Bromsgrove Guild, founded in 1898, worked with Miller on several commissions. The Guild's high quality of craftsmanship in woodcarving, stained glass and plasterwork gained it an international reputation which continued until it was disbanded in 1966.
