Scope and Content Detail of the Dining Room, Central Station Hotel, No 99 Gordon Street, Glasgow The Central Station Hotel, built for the Caledonian Railway Company, was extended by the architect, James Miller, who added a magnificent dining room to the Hope Street side. This detail from the room was photographed in 1906 by Harry Bedford Lemere. These double doors lead to the kitchens, and were normally hidden behind a folding screen. The woodwork, by the Bromsgrove Guild, has an intricately carved panel above the doors depicting a winged head surrounded by swirling leaves and autumn fruits. The Bromsgrove Guild, an organisation of skilled craftsmen founded in Bromsgrove in 1898, gained an international reputation for the high quality of its work. Miller employed the Guild on several commissions, especially for their woodcarving skills. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
