Scope and Content Anatomy Museum, University of Edinburgh Medical School, Teviot Place, Edinburgh The University of Edinburgh Medical School, designed by the architect, Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, had, as its central feature, an impressive anatomy museum. The interior was photographed in 1895 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This three-storeyed top-lit galleried hall housed a unique anatomical collection including elephant skeletons, skeletons of whales and dolphins suspended from the ceiling, and a wealth of other exhibits including mammalian, human and historical specimens. The anatomy museum flourished under Sir William Turner, Professor of Anatomy from 1867 to 1903. His main interests were in comparative mammalian anatomy, anthropology and craniology, subjects that were then firmly based in the medical faculty. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
