Scope and Content View of rear of Bridgend House, Main Street, Perth Bridgend House was built in the early 19th-century, and demolished c.1966. It was visited in the 1820s by the Victorian art critic and artist John Ruskin (1819-1900) who came to Perth as a child to stay with his aunt and uncle Peter and Jessie Richardson. This photograph shows the rear of the house. In contrast to the columned portico on the façade, the rear is simpler in style, with a variety of window shapes, including dormer bay windows in the roof. This part of the house was probably a later addition. John Ruskin also stayed with his aunt at No 10 Rose Terrace, where she moved to after the death of her husband. Ruskin was later married in Perth, in Bowerswell House, on the 10th April 1848. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
