Scope and Content View of Bridgend House, Main Street, Perth Bridgend House, or 'Ruskin's House', was an early 19th-century villa. It belonged to John Ruskin 's uncle, Peter Richardson, and his wife Jessie in the early 1800s, and Ruskin visited them here as a boy c.1822-7. The house was demolished c.1966. This photograph shows the house with its prominent portico with panelled door, and its original sash and case windows. The unusual roof shape suggests that the house has been altered at some time. To the front is a small garden with a cast iron gate. A plaque on this building, placed there in 1901, commemorated the visits by Victorian art critic and artist John Ruskin (1819-1900) to the house. After the death of her husband, his aunt moved to No 10 Rose Terrace where Ruskin also stayed as a child. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
