Scope and Content Staircase, No 10 Lowther Terrace, Kelvinside, Glasgow No 10 Lowther Terrace was designed in c.1900 by the Glasgow architect, James Miller, as a townhouse for John Traill Cargill. The interior of the house was photographed in 1906 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The large staircase window is inset with simple coloured glass panels of genre scenes by the Glasgow stained glass artist, Oscar Paterson. The stair itself is designed in a late 17th-century style, with wineglass balusters and a broad moulded handrail. The artist, Oscar Paterson, used designs of simple subjects, such as ships, houses and birds, in his work, and his delight in old ballads, medieval history, folklore and ancient sayings supplied a literary interest to many of his glass windows.
