Scope and Content Unidentified Room, No 10 Lowther Terrace, Kelvinside, Glasgow No 10 Lowther Terrace, Glasgow, an exceptionally fine townhouse designed in c.1900 by the Glasgow architect, James Miller, was built for John Traill Cargill. The house was photographed in 1906 by the architectural photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This room has a marble chimneypiece with a pilastered oak overmantel, and a frieze in Lincrusta or some similar embossed material. The elaborate electric light fitting, with candle-shaped glass shades and fancy fabric 'hats', mimics a chandelier. Lowther Terrace consists of three individually-designed houses in a composition more reminiscent of London's Cadogan Square than anything Scottish. James Miller also designed No 8 (1904) and No 9 is by the Edinburgh architect, Sydney Mitchell (1904-6). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
