Scope and Content Detail of specimen block, Castlehill Redevelopment, Aberdeen The Castlehill redevelopment consists of one 19-storeyed block of 108 flats, and one nine-storeyed block of 48 flats, built closely together. The slab blocks stand on concrete legs. They were built in 1966 to designs by the City Architect's Department. This photograph shows part of one of the blocks. The pre-fabricated concrete panels with their granite rubble finish can be seen above a blockwork base. Granite from the Rubislaw quarry was often used for 19th and 20th-century Aberdeen housing. Panels faced with the stone from demolished buildings or granite aggregate blocks known as 'Fyfestones' were used for many modern developments. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
