Scope and Content Haberdashery Department, Jenners Department Store, Nos 47-52 Princes Street, Edinburgh Jenners, designed in 1893-5 by William Hamilton Beattie, was, when it opened in 1895, one of the largest department stores in Britain. This overview of the haberdashery department was taken in 1895 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This view of the department, taken from the tea room gallery, shows the Princes Street entrance. The counter on the right displays a mass of artificial flowers, ostrich feathers and trimmings, and the entire counter on the left is devoted to lace. In 1895, the distinguished photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere, took photographs of the interior of Jenners which now form some of the few, well-defined and extensive records of the interior of a late 19th-century Scottish Victorian department store.
