Scope and Content Haberdashery Department, Jenners Department Store, Nos 47-52 Princes Street, Edinburgh Charles Jenner & Company's Princes Street store was photographed in 1895 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This view of the haberdashery department forms part of his photographic collection of the interior of the late-Victorian department store. The huge haberdashery department, on the ground floor of the building, was lined with glass-topped display counters, and shelves containing a wide selection of dress accessories and sewing goods. Each carefully positioned chair bears the monogram 'C J'. Bedford Lemere (1864-1944), one of the most distinguished architectural photographers of his day, composed and processed his pictures with great care. He was mainly commissioned by private owners and his success lay in recording buildings as they were. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
