Scope and Content Tea Room Kitchen, Jenners Department Store, Nos 47-52 Princes Street, Edinburgh Charles Jenner & Company's Princes Street store was, when it opened in 1895, one of the largest department stores in Britain. This photograph of the tea room kitchen was taken in 1895 by the distinguished photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. This view of 'behind the scenes' at the Moorish tea rooms shows the large, immaculately tidy tea room kitchen and its wooden preparation tables carefully laid out with plates of food. Bedford Lemere normally worked with the smallest possible camera aperture in order to obtain the sharpest definition and maximum depth of field. As this called for exposures of considerable duration, there are very seldom any figures in his photographs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
