Scope and Content Pullar's Dyeworks, No 1 Mill Street, Perth This works was built from 1865 for James Pullar & Co, who became the leading firm of dyers in Scotland. They were used the pure water from the River Tay, as did several other firms of bleachers and dyers in this part of Perthshire. This shows part of the Mill Street frontage of the works. On the right is the end of another block, even longer than this one, and a storey higher. The one in this view continues round the corner along Kinnoull Street, and is presumably part of the 1865 building. The firm's business was primarily a retail one, with branches throughout Scotland collecting customers' orders and forwarding them to Perth for processing. Demand for this kind of service declined in the 1960s and 1970s, and the works closed. It has been redeveloped as council offices. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
