Scope and Content Possil Station, Balmore Road, Glasgow This station was opened in 1897 by the Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway as part of a northern loop line from Balornock to Maryhill intended for mineral traffic and for a suburban passenger service which never prospered owing to the electrification of the Glasgow tramways in 1901-2. This shows the street frontage of the station, which had stairs down to platforms on either side of the bridge on which this building stands. The building housed a booking office, and at the upper level housing for staff. It is faced with red terracotta brick, with red sandstone dressings. This station closed to passengers in 1908, but was reopened in 1934, closing again in 1964. The street front building and the former goods shed were still standing in 2002, though in poor condition.
