Scope and Content Engineering Works, Nos 8-18 Scotland Street, Glasgow This works was built in 1870-1 for James Howden, engineer, who had started in business at No 2 Scotland Street, in P & W McOnie's old works. Nos 8-18 was much larger, and Howdens remained there until 1897, when the firm moved further along Scotland Street. This shows the Scotland Street frontage of the works, with part of the Paterson Street frontage on the right. The Scotland Street façades are faced with sandstone ashlar, and the Paterson Street frontage is of the more usual red and white brick. After Howdens left this works it was split into sections, and used by a number of different firms. In 1966 the middle section was used as a fertiliser warehouse. Most of the complex has been demolished, but part still survived in 2002. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
