Scope and Content Hydraulic Power Station, Queen's Dock, Glasgow This building was constructed in 1877-8 for the Clyde Navigation Trust as part of its Stobcross (later Queen's) Dock project. It was designed by John Carrick, architect, and provided hydraulic power for a swing bridge over the entrance to the dock, and for cranes on an adjacent quay. This shows the building from the north, with the passage to the Kelvinhaugh Ferry to its right. The clock tower housed the hydraulic accumulator used to store water under pressure, and the main building housed the steam pumps used to deliver high-pressure water. This building was no longer a pumping station in 1965. The dock closed in 1969, and has since been filled in. Since then it has been used as a restaurant, but it is now a visitor centre for the sailing vessel 'Glenlee', moored at Yorkhill Quay. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
