Scope and Content Gravestone of Andrew Stewart and sons, Parish Church and Churchyard, Dron, Perth & Kinross This stone commemorates a millwright. His tools are shown below the urn in the centre of the stone. The picks would be used to cut the grinding surface of the millstones, and the three-pronged object in the centre of the stone is a 'mouline', or brace which supported the millstone. The flaming urn is a symbol of eternal life. This monument retains the trade emblems of the earlier stones, but is carved in a Neo-Classical style, with pilasters and pediment, and a finely striated background, almost as if the design were copied from an engraving. The poem takes the form of an address from the deceased to the reader, and is typical of the more sentimental verses of the 19th century. This gravestone commemorates Andrew Stewart, who died in 1830, and his two sons (both also called Andrew) who died in infancy. It is inscribed: 'ERECTED/by Mary Hood in memory of her/husband Andrew Stewart who died/Wrights Pattie on the 12th Jany 1830/aged 63 yeares. Also in memory of their two sons both named Andrew who died in infancy/Now while I do rest in this cold house of death/And return to that God who first gave me breath/May you all who survive me love him and adore/Till we meet in those mansions to sep'rate no more'.
