Scope and Content Auchinleck Station, Auchinleck, Ayrshire (East Ayrshire council area) This station was on the Cumnock branch of the Glasgow, Paisley, kilmarnock and Ayr Railway, opened in 1848. It was a two-platform through station, with the main building on the south-bound platform, inccorporating the agent's house. This view shows the main building from the south, with the goods yard to the right, and the modern signal box to the left. Note the low-pitched roof with overhanging eaves, characteristic of 1840s stations. This station was closed to passengers by 1966, but still well looked after. It was reopened in the early 1990s, but the station building seen here was demolished soon after. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
