Scope and Content Clutha Weaving Factory, No 62 Carstairs Street, Glasgow This was one of the last weaving factories built in Glasgow in 1900-6, constructed for John Brown & Son, power-loom muslin manufacturers to designs by G & A Harvey, engineers, and by Miles S Gibson and Duncan & Copland, architects. This shows the Colvend Street frontage of the factory, with the north-lit weaving sheds sandwiched between two-storeyed blocks which probably housed preparation machinery. Browns had already built the Barrowfield Weaving Factory in French Street. By 1899 there was no more room for expansion on this site, hence the construction of this new and very large factory. In 1967 it was in multiple use. It has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
