Scope and Content North British Distillery, Wheatfield Road, Edinburgh Founded in 1886, this grain whisky distillery was a model distillery of the period. It was established by a group of whisky blenders to counter the near-monopoly of grain whisky production of The Distillers Co Ltd. This shows the part of the street frontage of the distillery, which was formed by the very extensive bonded warehouses used for maturing the produce of the distillery. This five-storeyed range was the largest of these warehouses. This distillery is still in operation, but the warehouses are no longer in use for maturing, and have been partly demolished. The company is now jointly owned by United Distillers & Vintners and the Edrington Group. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
