Scope and Content Old Kilpatrick Station, Dunbartonshire (West Dunbartonshire council area) This station was built by the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway, a subsidiary of the Caledonian Railway, which connected with the Glasgow Central Railway to give a route to Dumbarton competing with the North British Railway. This view shows the railway track through the station being lifted by TW Ward. The wagons on the left are awaiting loading with sleepers and chairs from dismantled panels of track. This section of the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire was closed in 1961, when the former North British Railway route was electrified, though a section between Bowling and Dumbarton was electrified in preference to the North British line.
