Scope and Content Granary and offices, City Mills, Perth, Perthshire (Perth and Kinross council area) The Perth City Mills complex consisted of the upper mill, a flour mill, the lower mill, an oatmeal mill, and a granary and offices in the angle between the two mills, both of which were powered by waterwheels on the Perth City Lade. This view shows the offices in the centre, with the granary to the left. This was unusual in having an external stair tower. The substantial construction was probably to deter attack by rioters in times of famine, not uncommon in the 18th century. The offices have been demolished, but the granary has been converted into flats by the National Trust for Scotland, under their Little Houses scheme. The upper mill is now part of an hotel, and the lower is a visitor centre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
