Scope and Content Invergordon Grain and Ben Wyvis Malt distilleries, Invergordon, Ross and Cromarty (Highland council area) Invergordon Distillery was founded in 1959 by The Invergordon Distilleries Ltd, a company formed by Provost Grigor of Inverness and Frank Thomson, a local chartered accountant, to counter unemployment following closure of a naval base. This view shows part of the blending plant associated with the distillery. This is the marrying store, in which casks of whisky blended in a vat are allowed to stand for a period, to marry, before being bottled. As built Invergordon had a single Coffey continuous still; two more were added in 1963, and a fourth large continuous still was installed in 1978. Ben Wyvis malt distillery operated within the complex from 1965 to 1977. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
