Scope and Content Braes of Glenlivet Distillery, near Chapeltown of Glenlivet, Banffshire (Moray council area) This distillery was built by Chivas Bros. Ltd, a subsidiary of the Seagram Co Ltd, Canada, as the first of what was apparently planned to be a five-distillery, five year programme. It had three stills as built, and six by 1978. This view shows the exterior of the building, which is notable for its clean lines. The pagoda roof, an industry badge, is purely decorative. This distillery brings in its malt, and its output is taken away by road tanker to be filled into casks and matured in central warehouses in Keith. It is now called Braeval to prevent confusion with The Glenlivet Distillery at Minmore. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
