Scope and Content Detail of main front of Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. On the main front of Airds House there is a projecting centrepiece three bays wide. It is surmounted by a triangular pediment which bears, in relief, the coat of arms of the Campbells of Airds, set between moulded bull's eye windows. Above the arms is the motto 'BE MINDFULL'. The shield includes a hart's head and a galley with sail furled, oars in action and pennons flying. There is a swan as a crest, or ornament, on top of the helmet. Above the pediment there is an urn finial. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
