Scope and Content View of main front of Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. This main front of Airds House is three-storeyed with five bays. The central three bays are advanced and surmounted by a triangular pediment, decorated with urn finials. There is a small circular or bull's eye window on either side of a coat of arms. The entrance doorway has a segmental-headed pediment and the window above it, a triangular pediment. The window on the second floor has a lug-moulded surround with a keystone in the centre. The other windows have plain surrounds with rounded edges. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
