Scope and Content View of Airds House from the south-west, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. Airds House consists of a three-storeyed five-bayed main block with a pedimented centrepiece. On either side of the main block, hidden by the trees, there is a low corridor which leads to two-storeyed pedimented pavilions. The pavilion to the right was extended in 1858. Airds House belonged to the Campbells until the mid-19th century, when it was acquired by Robert MacFie of Langhouse. He was responsible for the additions and alterations made in 1858.
