Scope and Content View of rear elevation of Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. To the left of the main block are the extensions built in 1858 which contained a billiards room and extra service quarters. The entrance door to the far left is dated 1858 on its keystone. The additions were placed behind a two-storeyed pavilion. Airds House belonged to the Campbells until the mid-19th century, when it was acquired by Robert MacFie of Langhouse. He was responsible for the additions and alterations made in 1858. The MacFie family owned the property until the 20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
