Scope and Content View of pavilions at Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. Airds House consists of a three-storeyed five-bayed main block with a pedimented centrepiece. At either side of the main block is a curved corridor which links to a two-storeyed pavilion. At the centre of each linking section there is a round-arched door. The pavilions, left and right, have been altered internally and do not retain any original features. The pavilion to the right originally housed the kitchen and the pavilion to the left has an unvaulted cellar. The corridor door (centre) is now a window. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
