Scope and Content Detail of timber door-lock at Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. Although the house has been remodelled internally several times it still retains some of its original timber features. There are many panelled doors and pine shutters. This is an example of an unusual timber door-lock, now a little worm-eaten. Airds House belonged to the Campbells until the mid-19th century, when it was acquired by Robert MacFie of Langhouse. He was responsible for the additions and alterations made in 1858. The MacFie family owned the property until the 20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
